At Tara Starlet we make clothes for confident, creative women who love dressing up and have a penchant for a retro aesthetic. We have long taken inspiration from our heroines of film, art and theatre and we make clothes for beautiful and intelligent women with depth of character. Coming from a background in costume design, we love to use clothing that builds a character and communicates a story.
Joanne and Tara Scott founded the brand back in 2005, and the mother-daughter team turned their passion for dressing fabulously into a thriving little business. Unfortunately Jo passed away at the end of 2011 following a 6 year battle with cancer. Jo was a formidable force, an ardent feminist, single mother and a truly gifted costume designer. Tara has heroically continued to inject her mother’s vision, passion and determination into running the label and Joanne’s own exemplary patterns are still replicated today.
The intimate nature of the company proves that the best things really do come in small packages. We are a small team with a big vision, based in London’s East-End. We are dedicated to creating fun, empowering and beautiful garments that don’t cost the earth. All garments are sourced and manufactured locally in London, supporting the British economy and keeping your carbon footprint dainty.
Over the years Tara Starlet has enjoyed a 6 year residency at Topshop’s London flagship store and a pop-up shop in Carnaby Street, but we are now strictly online. We do have some stockists in the UK, Europe and worldwide but this is the only place you will be able to find the full collection and our famously limited edition pieces.
We are very proud to say that Tara Starlet has been a huge hit with the Fashion Press, Celebrities and Super-Bloggers alike. We have been featured in such publications as Vogue, Grazia, Elle and many more. Our celebrity fan base includes Paloma Faith, Fern Cotton and Kate Nash to name a few. And we are regularly featured on the amazing blogs of Liv Purvis (What Olivia Did), Jasmine Rodriguez (Vintage Vandalizm) and Fleur McGuerr (Diary of a Vintage Girl).
