Get The SS16 Look Now!
Posted: Feb 15 2016
February is a funny time of year, the Christmas/New Year hangover is a distant memory, the optimism of January's resolution-setting is left behind, and we begin to look forward to summer. Of course the global fashion weeks start and for many stores the spring collections will be arriving. We start to get very excited about the new trends and want to start dressing for summer now! However, it is still way too cold and the clocks haven't even gone forward yet. It is a little crazy that we in the fashion world start the summer season so early in the year, lest we forget the snow blizzards of NYFW in Feb '14! So I have decided to put together a report some of my favourites from the stand out trends for SS16, which are weather appropriate! I know you girls are style-setters and price-savvy so here is a run-down of the best Spring Summer trends to wear now, and how to get the look at a penny-friendly price in the Tara Starlet sale!
The Pussy Bow Blouse is a huge trend for SS16 and with its long sleeves and gorgeous layering, it is perfect for transitional dressing during these early colder months.
To get the Gucci look and back the geek chic trend, pair with some spectacles and a beret!
Florals are always a huge hit in spring, they're as much a part of welcoming in the new season as hot cross buns and daffodils! But each season they will take on a new incarnation so to make sure you are nailing florals SS16 style look for whimsical prints in muted tones and go for sensual fabrics like printed satins as seen at Calvin Klein, or sheer crepes a la Etro.
Get the Calvin Klein look with The Wiggle Skirt in Floral Stretch Satin.
Get the sheer and floaty floral look as seen on the catwalks at Etro, with The Sheer Shirt in Floral.
Red, White and Blue
The Marc Jacobs show was an explosion of Americana, with vintage inspiration and vaudevillian accents. To get the look, go for head-to-toe red, white and blue; don't shy away from prints or be afraid to print-clash; add vintage sports sweaters and anything with a circus or nautical twist. I love the sailor suit on the right, you can get the look with my signature Sailor Shorts in navy or red.
Chanel also went for the Red White and Blue trend when shooting their SS16 advertising campaign, as seen below. Get the look by tying a vintage silk scarf bib-style and piling on the tricolore!
Silver metallic is a seriously huge trend this Spring, adding a splash of the sparkly stuff is the quickest and most sure-fire way to make sure you look on trend and fashion forward. I love the below images from the Chanel and Tod's catwalk shows which have a futuristic twist on vintage style and shapes.
One way of wearing this bold trend that we have seen time and time again across many of the different shows is silver bottoms with white tops. A classic, crisp white shirt is the perfect way to let your statement trousers do the talking. Pair with monochrome or matching silver shoes and futuristic accessories.
If you're a dedicated vintage girl, don't be afraid of this futuristic trend or think it's not for you. Just channel your inner Jane Jetson and play with vintage-futurism style!
What are your favourite SS16 trends? Will you be sporting any this weekend for London Fashion Week?
Lots of love,
